Gently Mary laid her child in the humble manger,
softly cradling Jesus' head, shielding him from danger.
Jesus, may we hold your head?  Rock you in your manger bed?
Whisp'ring lightly, "Lullaby, Jesus, tiny child."

Proudly Joseph stood above, guarding baby, mother;
watched for evil in the night, knowing it would hover.
Jesus, may we watch your bed?  May we stand in Joseph's stead?
Singing lightly, "Lullaby, Jesus, holy child."

Softly shepherds came to see Jesus Christ, the Savior,
knowing that he came to free all from death and sorrow.
Jesus, may we see your face?  So to know God's saving grace?
